ocr: LANDING GROUND SPOILERS TRAILING- EDGE PLAPS - Uta AN LEADING-EDGE FLAPS The moment the airliner lands, the pilot raises the ground spoilers. These greatly increase the drag force on the wings by breaking - - up the airtlow. The spoilers also deflect air upward. This pushes the airliner downward, SO that the tires firmly grip the runway. The pilot uses the brakes, and may also put the engines 1n reverse, to bring the plane to: a standstill.
